Some believe that Chernobyl killed a few dozen, while others follow Yablokov's estimate of around 1,000,000.

Because it is a religious issue, those who support nuclear power will never listen to arguments that nuclear power is not competitive or simply ignore that it is greatly favored by political elites for various reasons. So, for example, plants are routinely allowed to not reprocess fuel or have inadequate back-up generators. On the other hand, those who believe nuclear plants were created by folks on leave from Hades will never even entertain the thought that other forms of power have drawbacks, too.

So, sure, some people don't worry about horrible food or EMF pollution, but panic about Fukushima. This phenomenon is as old as the hills.PaxAmericananoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2207076947655236975.post-55445563071623454102011-06-01T10:50:53.293+09:002011-06-01T10:50:53.293+09:00Mark, your cynicism is not supported by facts. From the owner of the rabit: When accused of posting the video to intentionally cause panic, the user pointed out: “Please don’t get me wrong; I have not explicitly stated that this is a result of the radiation.” http://bit.ly/mSWhVr

Animals, plants (and humans) are and have been born deformed since the beginning of time. It's clearly a case of looking for something and finding it, as neither of those things are uncommon mutations. If all the rabbits had no ears, or the entire patch of flowers were different, maybe you could worry, but radiation doesn't really mutate things, it just kills them.Marknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2207076947655236975.post-51865639387802534062011-05-31T11:24:10.840+09:002011-05-31T11:24:10.840+09:00people are always confusing nuclear energy with nu...people are always confusing nuclear energy with nuclear weaponry and how that is a ploy used by the anti-nuclear power lobby to scare people
This doesn't detract or disprove your point, but just yesterday I was doing some research on nuclear plants in Britain. The most famous is Sellafield which is now actually a reprocessing plant making MOX fuel (some of it is in Fukushima). But Sellafield used to be called Windscale, and was the first nuclear plant in post-war Britain. It's purpose? To produce plutonium for atomic weapons. It stopped after a fire in 1957! So in the minds of many Brits, nuclear power and nuclear weapons are associated. For a reason.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
