Right now, the US has to subsidize the bases in Japan and it's costing the tax payers in both countries.<br /><br />More importantly, she can sink the shit out of the illegal ships entering her waters and put an end, once and for all, to the ridiculous claims being made about ownership of islands in both the north and south.<br /><br />Finally, a revitalized military industrial complex for Japan will help her economy. Like BMW, companies like Mitsubishi and Subaru were building airplanes before being banned from doing so (after the WWII). Honda already has a huge back log of orders for their new personal jets. Imagine what would happen if Boeing and Air Bus were challenged by the likes of Mitsubishi.
