The Japanese former hot-dog eating champion from, Takeru Kobayashi, was sentenced to 6 months probation for disturbing the peace at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Championship.
Here he is getting arrested:
The article reports:
Takeru Kobayashi, the Japanese former champion of an annual U.S. Independence Day hot-dog eating contest, was sentenced to 6 months' probation by a criminal court in New York on Thursday. Kobayashi, 32, was in court to face charges of obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, trespassing and disorderly conduct, following a scuffle with a police officer after this year's July 4 contest in New York, in which he did not participate due to a contract dispute with the event organizer.
The big story here, that most people do not know about is the scam that is going on. It used to be that Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest was just that: a contest that was fun. But now they are attempting to turn it into big business and have made the, are you ready for it? "Major League Eating League" (MLE) - like professional boxing or pro baseball - and if you are not a contracted member of the league, you can't join the contests.
I generally am against any sort of legislation by the government about any business, but I thought there were anti-trust laws about this sort of thing?
I reckon that Don King is a board member of MLE.
So, there you have it. These eating contests are no longer just fun and silly. They are big business and another scam to take money from folks.
Professional eaters?! Only in America.
