Comments must be succinct & relevant to the story. Comments are checked frequently and abusive, rude or profane comments will be deleted. I’m just one of many bloggers who answer questions online and sometimes for the press. I usually handle questions about Japan, marketing or the economy, so in those areas I’m more likely to make sense and less likely to say something really stupid. If I post something here that you find helpful or interesting, that’s wonderful. This is my personal blog. If you don't like what you have read here then, just like when you go into a restaurant or bar that allows smoking, if you don't like it, there's something at the front that has hinges on it and it is called a "door."
Hi. Thought this might be of interest to you. Maxceed is introducing drug testing of assistant language teachers (ALTs) in Japan. Here's a quote from a mysteriously undated letter which I received in the mail today from my HR trainer:
ReplyDelete"As the company gets bigger, scrutiny and expectations from all angles of society steadily increase. Being involved in the education of young people, a deep sense of legal responsibility is required by all of us. One result of this is that we are introducing a company-wide program to screen for potential drug abuse. This complements our existing drug testing program."
(Actually, I didn't know they had one.) The letter continues:
"The purpose of this screening is to reassure our clients (including teachers, parents, and members of the community) that our employees are socially responsible individuals who comply with Japanese laws regarding illicit drugs and applies to all employees, regardless of nationality or position in the company who are in regular communication with students.
"The method of screening will include an oral saliva kit, and you should expect to be asked to undergo this screening before the commencement of you (sic) assignment under you (sic) new contract or at any time during the year."
