It's summer in Japan. Every day is hot and lots of rain.
I don't need a sauna at the sports club, I can just step outside for a minute and I'll be drenching wet! I hate summer in Japan.
Every week for the last 15 or 20 years, I have been making a Top 3 Video countdown. I first did it for a magazine that went bankrupt; then I did it for a friend who went and deleted his webpage, without telling me he was going to do it (I was really mad about that!)... Then I did it for a company webpage. But I stopped that because the page will no longer allow me to embed the videos into the page!
Now, since 2015, I started doing the Countdown for myself. I guess I will continue doing it this way until I die.
Every once in a while, an artist will write to me telling me "Thanks!" for posting their video. That is so nice of them. I really appreciate it.
It is so rewarding when an artist writes to me and says, "Thank you." Doing the Top 3 Video Countdown is a labor of love.
This week, I got a lovely note from Josie Cotton! Yes, THAT Josie Cotton. She wrote to me:
"Hi Mike ! Thank you so much for putting my new video in your top 3 of the week with such unbelievably cool artists!! I'm very flatterred. It's always been my dream to tour in Japan but something crazy always happened xoxo Josie Cotton"

Josie Cotton! The legendary pop artist who wowed the world with "Johnny, Are You Queer?" and "He Could Be the One" from 1982, and so many other great hits? She was definitely (and still is) Hollywood In-Crowd!
Josie has a new single and I think it is fab. It's called "Ukranian Cowboy" and it is fantastic. Here's what her record label has to say about this great new track:
"Josie Cotton's videos from the B-Girls album and her Pussycat Babylon record took her fans straight to the drive-in; they were letters to film fans from another aficionado, one who was extremely adept at handling cinematic imagery and story telling. The clip for "Ukranian Cowboy" picks up right where she left off. Once again, the costumes and performances are straight from the seamier side of the motion picture industry. The star, who appears in the very first frame in a replica '60s B-movie poster, dresses the part to a T – and she gallops through the rest of the footage, high in the saddle with an electric guitar strapped to her back. But she's not riding her horse through the Old West. Instead, she encounters Russian dancers, soldiers, titles in Cyrillic, and the domes of the Eastern church. There's even a bear strumming a balalaika. It all works together brilliantly: an ironic testament to the artist's impeccable eye for connections and parallels that elude the average cultural observer. - www.JosieCottonMusic.com"

Here is the Josie Cotton video that started it all! I LOVE THIS SONG! Johnny, Are You Queer?
I asked Josie to tell me. Is Johnny really queer?
She hilariously answered, "Flaming!"
Here's another Josie Cotton song that was a BIG HIT!
Thanks Josie Cotton for writing to me. Messages like yours makes doing the Top 3 Video Countdown worth all the troubles every week!
Thank you so very much!

Comments must be succinct & relevant to the story. Comments are checked frequently and abusive, rude or profane comments will be deleted. I’m just one of many bloggers who answer questions online and sometimes for the press. I usually handle questions about Japan, marketing or the economy, so in those areas I’m more likely to make sense and less likely to say something really stupid. If I post something here that you find helpful or interesting, that’s wonderful. This is my personal blog. If you don't like what you have read here then, just like when you go into a restaurant or bar that allows smoking, if you don't like it, there's something at the front that has hinges on it and it is called a "door."
