Now You Can Kill Just Like the President Does! Hilarious! Toy Drones on Sale on Amazon!

There's a hilarious new toy on sale on Amazon that has got to be making president Obama grimace. It's a toy Predator drone and it's just like the real thing! That's right! Now you can be the Decider and you can act out your own fantasies assassinating bad guys and American citizens just like the president does! Wow! What fun for the whole family!

You know, this drone is a mini replica of the kind of drone the leader of the Free World, the president of the USA, uses to "Take out the trash!" (execute "terrahists," civilians - old men and women, pregnant ladies and small children too!) in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen and who knows where else? Your imagination is the limits!

Well, actually, I don't think it is really on sale. Someone has spoofed the system and put the item on sale, but it is listed as "Currently unavailable" (sold out!).

Product Features Includes:
*US Air Force Medium Altitude, Long Endurance, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) RQ-1 Predator with Display Stand (Dimension: 6" x 3-1/2" x 1")
*Detailed authentic replicas with display stand Die cast metal and plastic 1:97 Scale (Dimension: 6" x 3-1/2" x 1")
*For age 3 and up

This is brilliant satire. What's even funnier are the customer reviews!

Here's just a few of my favorites:

It's like I'm sitting right there in the White House with my very own kill list!

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped me teach my son about the Imperial forces December 17, 2012

My son is very interested in joining the Imperial forces when he grows up. He says he's not sure if he wants to help police the homeland or if he wants to invade foreign countries. So I thought a new Predator drone toy would be a nice gift for him. These drones are used both domestically and internationally, to spy on people and assassinate them at the Emperor's discretion. He just loves flying his drone around our house, dropping Hellfire missiles on Scruffy, our dog. He kept saying that Scruffy was a terror suspect and needed to be taken out. I asked him if Scruffy should get a trial first, and he quoted Lindsay Graham, Imperial Senator: "Shut up Scruffy, you don't get a trial!" I was so proud. I think I'll buy him some video games that promote martial law for Christmas.

3.0 out of 5 stars Educational and fun!
I really wanted to show my toddler that it's okay to murder people and still come out a "hero" as long as you're in an air conditioned trailer remotely operating a Predator Drone 10,000 miles away in Pakistan.

I mean, if the government sanctions murder, it must be ok, right?

Like all good Americans (and to a lesser extent, Canadians, Brits, Aussies, Kiwis, and others) I have been waiting for a way to show my patriotism with a wonderfully detailed flying death machine, and here it is. Now, it's not like a regular military aircraft toy, oh no, this wonderful drone is multifunctional, it kills taliban and people we think might be taliban but we're not really sure but they had on weird hats so let's get em), but it has the added bonus of being able to fly and spy on those horrible other "americans" who, you know, pay for things with cash, or have a little extra food in a pantry, or have listened to talk radio. Why, my neighbor the other day, a retired navy fellow, said something unpleasant about the TSA, so I called the tip line, and, well problem solved.

Oh, my only problem with the toy is that the domestic spy package costs extra, but, so worth it.

Loads of fun! Set up a pretend wedding with your other toys, and then bomb the joyous occasion into ruin! Next, set up a pretend funeral for the imaginary victims and bomb the funeral too! Collect a Nobel Peace Prize after the body parts have finished raining down from the sky and show your friends!

You've had a busy play day - You've wiretapped Mom's cell phone and e-mail without a warrant, you've indefinitely detained your little brother Timmy in the linen closet without trial, and you've confiscated all the Super-Soakers from the neighborhood children (after all, why does any kid - besides you, of course - even NEED a Super-Soaker for self-defense? A regular water pistol should be enough). What do you do for an encore?

That's where the US Air Force Medium Altitude, Long Endurance, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) RQ-1 Predator from Maisto comes in. Let's say that Dad has been labeled a terrorist in secret through your disposition matrix. Rather than just arrest him and go through the hassle of trying and convicting him in a court of law, and having to fool with all those terrorist-loving Constitutional protections, you can just use one of these flying death robots to assassinate him! Remember, due process and oversight are for sissies. Plus, you get the added bonus of taking out potential terrorists before they've even done anything - estimates have determined that you can kill up to 49 potential future terrorists of any age for every confirmed terrorist you kill, and with the innovative 'double-tap' option, you can even kill a few terrorist first responders, preventing them from committing terrorist acts like helping the wounded and rescuing survivors trapped in the rubble. Don't let Dad get away with anti-American activities! Show him who's boss, whether he's at a wedding, a funeral, or just having his morning coffee. Sow fear and carnage in your wake! Win a Nobel Peace Prize and be declared Time Magazine's Person of the Year - Twice!

This goes well with the Maisto Extraordinary Rendition playset, by the way - which gives you all the tools you need to kidnap the family pet and take him for interrogation at a neighbor's house, where the rules of the Geneva Convention may not apply. Loads of fun!

And finally, my favorite review:

By USS LIBERTY
My Ritalin®-fueled first grade son thought it would be so much fun to play "Drop the Hellfire missiles". But when he brought it to school, the taxpayer-funded armed guard overheard him say the word "Hellfire" during recess. The principal immediately assigned him to indefinite detention. Then she called the media, and shamed him at the national level. Now he's depressed and taking Zoloft®. Where did we go wrong? Oh well, at least my new husband and I can finally take that 7 million dollar vacation to Hawai'i! Talk about change... "Yes we did!"

Is Japan Doomed? USA Moves Marines out of Okinawa!

Break out the wine glasses... Some US military are finally leaving Japan!

People have been so indoctrinated by bad information and state-run education that they take completely false premises as gospel truth. A very common example is the ridiculous notion that "War is good for the economy" or "disasters are good for the economy" because they cause us to rebuild and that  creates jobs. Folks, building stuff and blowing it up or repairing destroyed property is not good for the economy.

If disasters, like say, Katrina or the March 11 earthquake and tsunami (and subsequent nuclear disaster) were good for the economy then why don't we just bulldoze the entire country (including your house) underground and rebuild it... We'll be rich!

It's pretty obvious, if you think about it that way, why this notion is completely false. Read more about that in the "Broken Window Fallacy" here.

Some other dumb ideas are idea is that the government creates jobs. No, it doesn't. The government destroys wealth. It takes money from the productive part of society and gives it to the non-productive part of society. For example; the military. Sure, people in the military get paid and can call it a "job" but they don't give or create wealth in any way shape or form. Yours and my taxes pay their salaries. They don't contribute to the economy at all.

And while we're on the subject of the military, (and the US military is not unique in this case), wherever the military goes, bad things follow... A military base is a scourge for the local population. I am not one against prostitution, but, it is a fact of life that one of the main businesses around military bases is nightlife and adult entertainment.

It's been that way since the days of the Roman empire.

Lew Rockwell wrote about military bases in Slouching Towards Statism:

Young people are put in distant places where they face no supervision from family or an organic community. They have little work to do and an abundance of discretionary income. Their housing, food, medical care, and clothing are provided at no charge by the government. Nobody need plan, for example, to come up with next month's rent.

The grayness and regimentation of the military base masks a deep debasement. Illegal drug use is rampant, on and off the base, and has long involved more than half of the enlisted men (recent declines in reported drug use measure only a rise in dishonesty). Alcoholism is more than double civilian levels. Tattooing is normal, gambling is rampant, and in its discount stores, the U.S. military is the biggest purveyor of pornography in the world.

Go to any military base in the country and look at the kinds of outlying enterprises taxpayers unwittingly support. Once-nice communities have been turned into magnets for nude dancing, prostitution, and every manner of sexual profiteering.

Look at Georgia's Fort Benning. Apart from the military, the area is populated by traditional people with traditional morals. Yet along the main drag you pass dozens of brightly lit sex parlors, an alarming sight in the Deep South. The military here is a cultural cancer that lives off the taxpayer. It's no surprise that the military is riddled with sexual abuse: in their off-hours, these guys are feeding our tax dollars to naked performers. It reflects the absence of chivalry inherent in all government operations.

Other businesses popular around military bases are pawn shops and the sort of car dealers that cater to people who don't pay their debts. That reflects another dirty secret of the military: live-for-the-moment attitudes and bad credit are typical, as in any welfare culture.

Like I said, it's not just the US military that is this way. It is the way of all imperial powers and their militaries. To think that a foreign military occupation is a boon to the local society or economy is to selectively view a small slice of the issue.

While I go off on a tangent about the military, let me talk about the US military in Japan. Another really ridiculous idea is that if the USA closes military bases in Japan, then the Chinese will invade Japan and occupy it. Ha! That's funny!

Hold that thought and let me get back to it in a moment.... But first some news; Folks, Japan is an occupied country right now and at this very moment! The USA occupies it.

Anyone who thinks the USA is a benevolent country that fights wars to protect the rights of poor people and the disadvantaged and isn't interested in building an empire just hasn't been paying attention over these last, oh, 150 years. If the USA weren't interested in building empires (wars for resources, etc.) then the USA wouldn't have troops in over 130 countries, including Japan and they'd be long gone from Iraq (remember, "In and out in four weeks"?)

In spite of what the US government says, and is taught in school, to repeat; Japan is an occupied country.

Still don't believe me? Did you know that the US military enforces a "No Fly Zone" over some areas of the main island of Japan? Yep... Just like the USA did in Iraq and Libya. For example, for over the last 30 years Japan has been begging the United States to give her back the airspace above and around areas of Tokyo. Here is an extract from an article entitled U.S. to return part of Yokota airspace that appeared in the Japan Times on March 12, 2006:

"The United States has basically agreed to return part of the airspace over Yokota Air Base in Tokyo as part of the realignment of U.S. military forces in Japan, informed sources said Saturday.

"The basic agreement is expected to alleviate the overcrowding caused by the 470 commercial flights that must take detours around the so-called ‘Yokota RAPCON (Radar Approach Control)' area each day.

"The Yokota RAPCON covers the airspace above Tokyo and eight prefectures — Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Kanagawa, Yamanashi, Niigata, Nagano and Shizuoka. The military airspace is 7,000 meters high at its northern part and 3,700 to 5,500 meters in its southern part near Tokyo.

"Flights bound for western regions, such as Chugoku and Kyushu, have to ascend to avoid entering the banned airspace, while flights originating from those regions must make a detour south of Yokota, according to the transport ministry.

"The agreement, however, will effectively shelve Japan's request for the complete return of the airspace, which it has been seeking since the 1980s."

For decades, Japan has also been trying to get US military bases off Okinawa where there has been much animosity between the locals and the military due to cases of US military crimes that included murder of locals and the rape of children and just generally raising hell. As CRI English reports:

The whole dispute roots in the 1995 kidnapping and rape of a schoolgirl by three U.S. servicemen in Okinawa. Though top U. S. government officials publicly apologized for the crime, tensions continued to grow on the island.

While I disagree with the above quote as being too simplistic, it was a symptom of the larger problem. These sorts of things used to happened far too much on Okinawa.. They haven't happened in the last few years because US military personnel are restricted to base.

But, now, there's been some good news that Marines are being moved off of Okinawa. From Japan Today: U.S. to move 9,000 Marines from Okinawa; no change to Futenma plan

The United States is to shift 9,000 Marines out of Japan in a move Washington hopes will ease sometimes fractious relations with its ally over a huge American military presence.

The redeployment, which will see troops moved to Guam, Hawaii and Australia, will go ahead regardless of any progress on the moving of a busy airbase on Okinawa that had originally been a key plank of a deal with the U.S.

In a joint statement issued in Washington and Tokyo, the two sides said they remained committed to the relocation of the Futenma base from its present urban location to a coastal spot—a move that is heavily resisted in Okinawa.

The two governments “reconfirmed their view that (this) remains the only viable solution that has been identified to date,” the statement said.

This is good news as having US troops on Japanese soil is not good for Japan at all. Hopefully we can get rid of all US troops on Japan in the near future.

That being said, though, there are a lot of people who have bought into the government story that "US bases are good for the local economy" hook, line and sinker. They think the closing of bases will hurt the local economy (as if the US taxpayer should be paying to support businesses in Okinawa). Or, even worse, they think US troops on Japanese soil have prevented wars in Asia or Japan... Some people even think that the Chinese will move in when the Americans leave.

Laughable.

Japan has a quite large military (#6 in the world on military spending in 2010) as it is, thank you, and can defend herself. The USA being on Japanese soil gets Japan involved as a second-class citizen with her Asian neighbors and that doesn't help anyone. I wrote about that once in the Paradox of Japanese Remilitarization.

Anyway, if the people of Okinawa want the US military off their land, then it is, after all their land. The people get what they want. It's called democracy and it's supposed to work that way.

That's the funny thing about foreign occupation, though... It seems the antithesis of democracy. Occupation, military and politics seem to involve big money changing hands... The desires of the public are third-rate concerns...

For both the good of the Japanese public and the American public, the sooner the USA closes these foreign bases and gets her financial house in order, the better for everyone. The people of the USA cannot afford this empire anymore.

For the Japanese, the sooner they get on even and mutually respectable terms with her Asian neighbors without having to be a little sister behind the skirt of her American big sister, the better for everyone.

The Philippines got rid of their US bases in 1992 and the Chinese haven't invaded them... The Chinese haven't invaded Taiwan, either....

Probably the only people who really do want to keep the bases open are local politicians and anyone else who can exploit people and get kickbacks. Don't worry, folks. With or without US bases in Japan... Japan can defend herself; the Chinese aren't coming here anytime soon; and Okinawan businesses will most likely survive as businesses did in the Philippines after the closing of US bases...

No, the people can do better for themselves than servicing the empire. The sooner they start, the better life can be for their children. The USA out of Japan - and every other foreign nation!

We Cannot Depend on the Police or the Government - They Are Lazy and Out of Touch With Reality and Common Sense

A couple of stories that caught my eye that really make me wonder about what people are thinking about how the government keeps getting bigger and bigger and getting more and more involved with our daily lives.

Japanese motorcycle police drones... Do not protect the public...
They are a tax racketeering group on wheels

On the one hand, average Joe-Happoshu thinks that we need the government to take care of all sorts of things in our lives like retirement, health insurance, rules on wearing seat belts, smoking in public - oh I could go on and on... (I won't talk today about how there is nothing written in the constitution about the government running things like health care)...But, at the same time Joe-Happoshu wants to government to babysit him and his family, he fails to recognize that these very same people are constantly doing things that are the height of incompetence or of questionable judgement.

I want the police and government out of our lives... But can understand the desire of people to have the police protecting us (Duh! That's what they are supposed to do!) Ostensibly that's what they are here for. But here's a story about how the police took a vacation that probably helped contribute to two people getting murdered - a rare occurrence in this country and big news all over the media for these last few months:

Here's a story from the Japan Times: Cops took trip rather than probe stalker - Days later, two women were stabbed to death

CHIBA — Police officers from a Chiba Prefecture station postponed investigating a suspected case of assault and stalking and instead took a three-day pleasure trip to Hokkaido, shortly before the suspect allegedly killed two people, officials said Thursday.
Makoto Yamashita, 58, whose daughter was living in Chiba Prefecture, went to Narashino Police Station on Dec. 6 to file a complaint about a man he claimed had stalked and assaulted his daughter. He was asked to wait a week before submitting his request for an investigation.
Yamashita's wife, Mitsuko, 56, and mother, Hisae, 77, were stabbed to death at their home in Saikai, Nagasaki Prefecture, on Dec. 16.
The suspect is Gota Tsutsui, 27, of Mie Prefecture, the man whom Yamashita wanted to target with the complaint. Tsutsui had sent emails to many friends of Yamashita's daughter that he would retrieve her after murdering her family. The woman had left Chiba and moved in with her parents in Nagasaki Prefecture.
So the dad goes to the police to ask for help after getting death threats from a stalker. The cops ho-hum and suck air through their teeth and the guy is told to come back later... Why he was asked to wait a week is anyone's guess... I guess that it was because the police were too busy protecting the public by handing out parking tickets to prevent a murder (gotta pay for the year-end policeman's party, ya know!)
Then when the news gets out that the police screwed up, they lie about it and try to cover up for themselves:
The Chiba police had earlier said the officers postponed an investigation because they were busy looking into other cases.
The officers traveled to Hokkaido two days after seeing Yamashita, according to the latest findings by the Chiba police.

Riiiiiight. These are the people who we need to increase their annual budget because they are protecting us from evil Yakuza gangsters by raiding prostitution parlors or S&M clubs? Yes. There's dangers everywhere! We can never be too careful!

Damn the budget constraints and red ink. We need to increase police department budgets and increase staffing!

The other story involves a well-known Japanese politician who used artificial insemination to have a baby at 50-years-old. This story is also from the Japan Times: Lawmaker Has No Regrets About Giving Birth at 50

Seiko Noda, a 51-year-old Lower House lawmaker, drew wide public attention and controversy by bearing a child at age 50 through artificial insemination. During an interview in February, about a year after giving birth to a boy using ova from a third party in the United States, Noda said she has no regrets. She says her son, Masaki, who has never left the hospital since birth due to serious medical problems, is her "mentor" who trains her as a politician...

...Her private life has been filled with constant travails, however, because she had enormous difficulty having a child. At age 44 she published a book titled "Watashi wa Umitai" ("I Want to Give Birth"), in which she poured her heart out about her burning desire to somehow produce offspring and discussed her experience with fertility techniques.

As a firm believer in private property rights, I believe that the ultimate private property is a person's body. While I think it is odd and perhaps a bit selfish that a 50-year-old woman would want to have a baby, I suppose it would be wrong for me to condemn her just for that.
I also feel very sorry for her and especially that poor baby who lingers in the hospital and hope that he can recover quickly and lead a normal life...  Well, as normal as a kid could when his mom will be 66-years-old and a senior citizen when he is 15!
Like I said, I cannot criticize her for wanting and having a child. I think, though, I can criticize her for doing it while on the public dime and I can criticize her for doing it at 50-years-old while a public figure. Having a child at 50 is risky enough. Doing it while still working is idiocy.
And, on that point, why wait until 50? She even wrote a book about it! Why didn't she do this sooner? The chances of complications with the child and birth defects greatly increase after age 35. Why didn't this woman act sooner for the betterment of her child?
I think that is irresponsible.
I wonder how a person who is this lacking in judgement and responsibility when it comes to her own body and offspring could be depended upon to care for the well being of society at large? And don't call me a hypocrite! When my own daughter was hospitalized, as this woman's child is, my wife and I decided that she would quit her job and go live in the hospital with that child to care for her. She did that; we did that for 2.5 years. This politician? I'm sure she tries to visit whenever her schedule allows. If she were a dedicated mom, she'd quit her job and go take care of this child. But, like I said, I suspect this is an ego problem.
Sorry of I scoff and this story disgusts me. That poor child didn't deserve this.
Truly, as the days go by, the ruling class become farther and farther out of touch with reality and the common sense of the common man.
Is depending on these sorts of people any way to take care of your family? Is depending on these sorts of people anything less than gross irresponsibility?

Japan is a Peaceful Country - Crime of the Week? Sharks in Parks! Shark Attack!

Japan is a very peaceful country. Ask the Japanese, ask anyone who has ever been here. The Japanese will tell you, "日本は平和な国" ("Nihon wa heiwa na kuni" - Japan is a peaceful country). It is. Japan is an extremely peaceful country. In the west you constantly have news about grotesque crimes, murders, bombings and wars, in Japan? News about ducks crossing a road in downtown Tokyo.

Left: My image of typical USA news.
Right: Naked anime girl seems typical Japanese news

The crimes that hit the news sources in Japan are completely out of this world when compared to the crimes that hit the news compared to, say, the United States. In the USA, the news is about riots, police brutality, government spying on citizens, Americans losing their freedoms, white collar crimes and idiocy about what kind of fashions movie stars are wearing.

Ducks crossing busy streets in the world's most crowded city,
Tokyo, was big news for several years in Japan.

Photo from NTV - Channel 4 Nihon TV (Japan TV) Network

In the USA, there are roughly 17,000 murders per year. Japan, with roughly half the population of the USA has about 1,000 murders a year... Many of those murders are murder suicides so it is not exactly an apples to apple comparison. If there is a murder in the USA, it doesn't even hit the news unless the victim is a famous person or the relative of a famous person. In Japan, a murder usually becomes big news all over the TV and news networks for weeks after the incident.

The comparison of US news and Japan's news shows two countries that are as different as night and day. Here's things I skimmed from Yahoo news just now.

In the USA:

*Police Beat Protestors
*Hillary Clinton Commits Fashion Faux Pas at G20 Meeting
*Teen Rapes 5-year-old at Ohio McDonald's
*More Catholic Priests Accused of Molestation
*Shooter Says Angel That Ordered Him to Kill Looked Like Olivia Newton-John

Okay. Yeah, that cops beating people up story has been going on for a long time. It's winter now, just wait until it warms up again and then we'll start seeing more of this. Hillary Clinton's fashion? Ugh. The only thing worse than kissing Hillary Clinton would be to kiss Imelda Marcos. Who cares what her fashion is? Why are Americans so concerned with what people are wearing? Teen rapes 5-year-old? At a McDonald's? WTF!? Priests rape kids? Same old, same old... Murder says angel that told him to do it looks like Olivia Newton John? Well aren't all angels beautiful like Farrah Fawcet or Olivia Neutron Bomb?

Now let's look at the news in Japan:

*Fukushima Nuclear Plant Toured by Journalists
*Three People Found Dead of Starvation in Saitama
*Search for Disaster Victims on Fukushima Coast
*Emperor Leaves Hospital After Surgery
*Dead 1.5 Meter Long Shark Left in Park Has Cops Fishing for Motive

Right. Dead 1.5 meter (about 4.5 foot long) shark left in public park?... Wait!.... What?!

Japan Times has the story:

A dead shark found in Tokyo's Yoyogi Park has sparked an investigation into who brought it there, an officer at Yoyogi Police Station said Monday.
A park security guard called the police at 7 a.m. Sunday after finding the shark, which was covered by a blue tarp and measured about 1½ meters long, the police said.
The shark had been gutted and was found near a parking lot for bicycles near one of the entrances leading to JR Shibuya Station.
"The shark was not rotten, so I guess someone left the shark not so long ago," Hiroshi Okano, a deputy chief at Yoyogi Police Station, told The Japan Times by telephone. He said the police station is keeping its carcass at a storage facility there.
Okano wouldn't disclose any other details because the matter is still under investigation as an illegal dumping case.
On Twitter, dozens of posts from Feb. 14 to early on Feb. 15 said a shark was being exhibited in front of a sushi restaurant in Shibuya. The tweets later said someone had taken it away.
Only in Japan! And, actually, this is a pretty big story here in Japan. So what the deal is was is it seems that this shark was on display in front of a sushi shop. The sushi shops claims that some dumb gaijin (foreigner) told the sushi shop that we was an artist and wanted the shark to use to create some artwork. So, the sushi shops gave it to him. They say he must have dumped the shark in the park...
Uh, huh... Riiiiiiiight. Now, pun intended, but that story sounds really fishy! I don't believe that for a minute and it seems that the police don't either. It also strikes me as odd that the supposed perpetrator of this heinous crime is, of course, the unknown and shady foreigner...

Now, we all know that all foreigners in Japan are criminals, crack-addicts, sun-glass wearing untrustworthy, despicable characters (present company excluded)... But I don't know too many who have a hankering to be walking around carrying a 1.5 meter long shark under their arm... Also, considering that all artists (and musicians) are dirt poor, how is this artist going to get this shark home? On the train? And to think that a sushi shop is going to pay several hundred dollars for a fish (yeah, yeah, I know a shark isn't a fish) then just give it away to some guy walking up the street is a bit too much to believe.

Let me just say, "I don't think so."

I seems that the police don't believe this story either and are "grilling" (pun intended) the people from the sushi shop. It seems obvious to me that they had this huge shark that they didn't know what to do with and some Einstein there decided to dump it in the park and blame it on the scummy foreigners...

Heck, that's what any thinking person would do!

Well, that's the sort of thing that hits the news in Japan.

Ok. Maybe I would call the police... Or at least the the Coast Guard or the navy!

The other thing about this that really surprises me is that the park attendant, upon finding the shark, would actually bother to call the police? Really? If it were me, I'd just get a big trash bag and throw it out on trash day. The other thing is that the police would actually bother with this. Do the police in Japan actually have so much free time that they'd launch and investigation as to where this shark came from?

Don't those police clowns have any real criminals to catch? No they don't... They only have traffic tickets to give out and sushi to eat, in between raiding prostitution parlors and arresting S&M dominatrix queens.

Nihon wa heiwa na kuni. Japan is a peaceful country. (With the police wasting our tax money).

Old Skool Yakuza Gangster Assassination - New Skool Government Fear Mongering

"You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before." - Rahm Emanuel

Well, as it has been said, never to let a good crisis go to waste, a gangland killing in Japan has gotten the police and the mass media in a huff to show the population of Japan just how much serious danger they, and their children, are in. What ever will we do? Well, obviously, we need to rely on the police to protect us from these senseless gangster killers who are out to kill us all and eat our children. Read on.

Yakuza are going the way of the samurai... The ones I see never dress nice like this anymore.... They only dress nicely like this in the movies...

It looks like the Yakuza gangsters in Japan have really fallen on tough times. It seems that things are so bad that they've started eating out at crummy family restaurants. What ever happened to the classy joints these guys used to hang at at? You know, guys like Don Corleone who would only go to those ritzy members-only clubs that were filled with those classy hot dames like you see in the movies?

Yeah. Like this. High class women... Gentlemanly attitude

Gangsters hanging out at family restaurants!? I mean, has business gotten that bad? My business is bad too but I never go to family restaurants like Denny's. I hate that place. Family restaurants are over-priced and the food isn't good at all (excepting the salad bar at Sizzler's). And trust folks, even though I don't go, I do know that Denny's in Japan is MUCH better than Denny's in the USA. Denny's in Japan is actually kept very clean and the service is good (well, this is Japan, after all).

But, that's not the point. Never mind.

It seems that in Chiba, a Yakuza guy walked into a Denny's restaurant, pulled out a gun and blew away another Yakuza guy who was sitting there. I think it was a planned "hit" because there was no big scene or fight before the shooting.

The Japan Times Reports in "Mobster Dead in Eatery Shooting":

CHIBA — An apparently underworld member gunned down another yakuza in a crowded Denny's eatery in Togane, Chiba Prefecture, and then fled, police said.
The shooter, thought to be a gangster in his 60s, remains at large. The victim, Yoshiaki Furukawa, 62, from Kujyukuri, also apparently a yakuza, was shot in the chest. The gunman fled by car from the Denny's Togane Bypass outlet at around 10:05 a.m.
Police, who suspect the killing stemmed from money troubles, set up checkpoints on key routes.
Furukawa entered the Denny's with four others at 8:45 a.m. He started talking with the gunman, who came in shortly before 10 a.m., at another table near the door before he was shot.
"I heard a loud bang real close, just a few meters away from me," said one customer. "When I looked over my shoulder, a man was lying on the floor, bleeding."

So, the Yakuza are out shooting each other in what looks to be a planned event and what to the police do? They scare the entire eastern half of Japan by telling people to take their little children home from school and setting up roadblocks for someone who they don't even know what he looks like.

The female news reporter on the left at the start of the video is amusing in how much she tries her best to look serious and that she actually cares. Also notice the dozens of police and intentionally high visibility at the crime scene. They must have sent every single policeman available to make for great news video!

From the description of the Japan Times quote above the only thing that this news report adds is that the shooting was near a Denny's that is near two schools. I hate to sound like a Negative Nelly, but, well, yeah. The Denny's is near a train station, like probably every Denny's in Japan. Nobody in their right mind puts a family restaurant - or a school - too awfully far from a train station, especially when we're talking about big Japanese cities. Nevertheless, this gives the broadcasting station enough "gunpowder" to be able to scare everyone that the Yakuza are coming for your children! The underlying message being that we need the police to protect us from these out-of-control demons.

Once again, the police will use this incident as some sort of proof that we need more police protection and more laws clamping down on the Yakuza (which has been ongoing for this last year). I think that sort of notion is complete and absolute nonsense. Let me explain and add some perspective to this.

From the Associated Press:

Japan, where very few people own guns, averages 124 gun-related attacks a year, and less than 1 percent end in death. Police often raid the homes of those suspected of having weapons.

And may I add this from the Asia-Pacific Law Review:

Gun crime does exist, but in very low numbers. There were only 30 crimes committed in 1989 with shotguns or air rifles. With no legal civilian handgun possession, Japan experiences in an average year less than 200 violent crimes perpetrated with a handgun, of which almost all are perpetrated by Boryokudan, organised crime groups. Most gun crimes involve only unlicensed possession, and not the commission of another crime.
Anyone can see that the hype doesn't reflect the reality. We don't need more laws curtailing whatever it is that the Yakuza are doing, especially ridiculous things like scalping tickets and we certainly do not need to increase police or government budgets.

We need to cut government spending. With our public debt at 229% of GDP, we certainly do not need to use these sorts of excuses to increase police budgets for crimes that kill 127 people a year (and nearly all of them perpetrated against gangster by gangsters - not regular people) in a country of 127 million people. Heck, in 2010 over 350,000 people died of cancer...

But laying in a hospital bed with tubes in ones nose doesn't make for good or exciting TV news, now does it? Shootouts and panic are much better for increasing budgets and asking for more taxation.
